Protective Role of Caffeic Acid in Cognitive Dysfunction and Oxidative Stress Induced by Colchicine in Rats

Abstract: Purpose: Alzheimer’s is a disease affecting mostly the Older population leading to deterioration of cognitive capabilities. The protective effect Caffeic acid in Colchicineinduced dementia was evaluated current study. Materials and Methods: Colchicine administered intracerebroventricularly (ICV) lateral ventricle brain (at coordinates 0.8 mm posterior bregma, 1.8 sagittal suture, 3.6 below cortical surface) using robotic stereotaxic apparatus that results type sporadic dementia. at dose 50 mg/kg p.o, daily for 25 days starting four before colchicine injection its neuroprotective activity. spatial memory animals Morris water maze followed by biochemical estimations acetylcholinesterase antioxidant markers hippocampal frontal cortex region brain. Results: Intracerebroventricular rat resulted decreased abilities as evident escape latency average speed retention trial. Significant changes were noted acid-treated group. level like glutathione, catalase, lipid peroxidation, superoxide dismutase significantly changed rats but not caffeic treatment groups. Conclusion: study provides evidence antioxidative potential injected Colchicine-induced model AD. Key words: Colchicine, acid, disease, Antioxidant, Neuroprotection, Cholinesterase.
